AMBALA: To solve the problem of vehicular congestion on National Highway-1, the Ambala traffic police have fixed larger barricades to stop long-route roadway buses roadway buses from stopping on the highway to pick up passengers from both sides of the road and to control the entrance of vehicles from the wrong side in Ambala Cantonment bus stand and railway station. The step has also been taken to remove cart vendors from the roadsides on NH-1.
The long-route roadway buses of different states heading towards Rajasthan and Delhi used to stop the buses in between on NH-1 to pick up passengers from both sides of the road, instead of stopping at Ambala cantonment bus stand.

The practise has now been stopped as the traffic police have guarded the area with larger barricades than the ones set up before leaving no space for the buses to halt. Traffic in-charge inspector Manish has also requested the general manager of the Ambala Cantonment bus stand to guide the conductors to not stop the buses on the highway.

On Wednesday, inspector Manish visited the spot and started checking the buses from there. Manish said erring drivers will be issued penalty slips two times and for the third violation, the bus will be impounded by the traffic police.

While talking to TOI, Manish said, "These buses cause huge inconveniences to the local commuters, as they stop in between on NH-1 to pick up passengers from Ambala, which leads to traffic chaos and jam on this point. We were planning to fix these barricades after receiving multiple complaints from the local residents."

Earlier, smaller barricades and barbed wires were fixed in the area but did not make much difference. This time Ambala police have fixed larger barricades to tackle this problem.

Manish said, "Nearly 12 to 13 cops including traffic police personnel and home guards have been deployed in the area to keep a vigil eye on the defaulters. This is a pilot project which has been started by our team and we will take calculations of data into account after this implementation, and after doing proper analyzation, further plans will be implemented here."
