MANGALURU: Even as former chief minister
Siddaramaiah hints another stint as CM, KPCC president
Dinesh Gundu Rao has brushed aside any political change in the state for next five years.
The KPCC chief said the Congress’ support for the coalition government headed by chief minister
H D Kumaraswamy will last for full five years’ term. “The Congress-JD(S) coalition will complete its five years term. There is no need of a political debate on change in government,” Rao said here on Saturday.
“I have not seen Siddaramaiah’s speech fully. According to me, Siddaramaiah might have made reference about his future plans of contesting elections. He has not been staking claim for the post of chief minister. He has told me that he has no plans of contesting election in future. He is not a power hungry politician, who always wants to be in power. However, I don’t know what will happen in future. There is no confusion that this coalition government will complete five years term,” Rao asserted and added that Siddaramaiah’s statements were blown out of proportion and context.
It may be recalled that former chief minister Siddaramaiah on Friday had said at
Halli Mysuru in Holenarsipur of Hassan district that he will come back. He had hinted at another stint as CM. However, the KPCC chief has clarified that Siddaramaiah has no such plans in his mind. “Siddaramaiah is our CLP leader, executive committee member and chairman of the coalition coordination committee. Siddaramaiah has high regards and respect in the party. There is no question of another chief minister since the state already has a coalition government. We have extended support to JD(S) considering the national interest. We will follow the ‘maithri dharma’ for five years. We will extend all support and cooperation for all the good works the government does,” he added.
On preparation for 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rao said Congress will finalise the list of candidates only after urban local body elections and the ministry expansion in September.
