The joint enforcement team of BDA, BMC and Commissionerate police on Friday carried out an eviction drive in and around the Kalinga Stadium and cleared unauthorised encroachments for the Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup.

Six asbestos houses, seven cabins, two tin shed houses, 12 bamboo framed polythene covered shops and near about 120-feet bamboo fencing from Gulab Resorts to Kalinga Stadium Traffic Square were demolished.

In another eviction drive, the civic authorities with the help of the Khandagiri police cleared illegal encroachment along Aiginia to AIIMS Road on the eve of visit of Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu.

During the drive, six temporary shops were evicted. However, due to heavy protest by the local people along with the Ward No 66 Councillor the drive was stopped.

Later, an FIR was also lodged by the BMC with the Khandagiri police for necessary action.
