LUCKNOW: The Central Bureau of Investigation caught an executive engineer of the North Central Railways red-handed for accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a contractor for processing payments and granting favours.
The miscreant arrested was Panna Lal Sailani, an executive engineer (constructions) posted in Tundla, in Uttar Pradesh.

CBI officials claimed that Sailani was caught with Rs 5 lakh, taking first installment of the total of Rs 19 lakhs demanded by him from the contractor.

It was alleged in the complaint that Sailani was demanding Rs 19 lakh for making entries in the measurement book, a record of measurements of construction work done by a contractor, and to process contractor's due payments, said the CBI spokesperson.

The CBI had laid a trap after several complaints against him were reported to the anti-corruption unit of the investigating agency. A CBI team was sent and they caught Sailani red-handed at Agra while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 Lakh as first installment from the complainant.
