In recognition of the importance of tourism sector to the region, there is the Contribution to Tourism Award at our Believe in Somerset Awards.

This recognition is given to a well-established business, organization or individual who is helping to attract visitors to the county. This could be through a particularly successful campaign, a huge community effort, or simply in recognition of a site’s stalwart who has been greeting visitors to an attraction.

Last year, the award went to three very different but equally important Somerset attractions – Butlin’s Minehead, Glastonbury Abbey and Petruth Paddocks.

Butlin’s entry highlighted how they bring in tens of thousands of visitors to Somerset each year, raising its profile as a tourism destination. They advertise widely on national television, creating awareness about other attractions in the county.

Glastonbury Abbey constantly hosts innovative events which complement the traditional attraction of the abbey. Examples are Musical Extravaganza, fireworks and reenactments. However, Petruth Paddocks ultimately triumphed, blowing away the judges with their well thought out entry.
