Urns containing the ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, arrived in Puducherry on Thursday morning.
The urns were handed over to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s local unit president V. Swaminathan and secretary-in-charge Arul Murugan in Delhi, on Wednesday.
Upon reaching here, the ashes of the late leader, were taken to places that fell under the Oulgaret Municipality, Ariyankuppam, Nettapakkam and Bahour commune panchayats, for the people to pay their respects.
On Friday, the urns will be taken to Puducherry Municipality, Mannadipet and Villianur.
The ashes will be kept in the party office on Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., for the party workers to pay homage. From there, the urns will be taken to Beach Road, in a silent procession.
Laid to rest
The ashes will be immersed in the sea, near the Gandhi statue, after Leiutenant Governor Kiran Bedi, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, Speaker V. Vaithilingam and other leaders pay their respects.
The ashes taken to Karaikal will be immersed in the sea on Friday evening.
