The Madras High Court on Thursday adjourned to August 31 the hearing on writ petitions filed by 18 AIADMK disqualified MLAs challenging their disqualification.
Justice M. Sathyanarayanan, the third judge hearing the matter in view of split verdict delivered by a Division Bench, deferred the hearing since senior counsel C. Aryama Sundaram, representing Speaker P. Dhanapal, could not complete his arguments.
Though the arguments were expected to wound up on Thursday, Mr. Sundaram said he would require another hour or so to argue the matter and even that would be possible only next week in view of his commitments in the Supreme Court.
Although the judge was visibly upset over frequent long adjournments sought in the case, he acceded to the request of Mr. Sundaram and adjourned the case by a week with a rider that the arguments should be completed on August 31.
