Talcher sanitation staffers to launch stir

| | TALCHER | in Bhubaneswar

The sanitation workers of Talcher Municipality protesting apathy from the civic body authority have finally brought their problems to the notice of the district Collector, Angul.

They told that though they have been facing hardships for long, their basic demands have fallen in the deaf ear of the authority.

In an 11- point memorandum, they highlighted their problems and the injustice meted out to them, seeking an immediate intervention of the district administration.

Their demands included payment of salary in first week of every month, clearance of all arrears, recruitment of a sanitary inspector and handover of charge to an accountant, supply of shoes, gloves, rain coat and other sanitation instruments, etc.

They lamented that they were being paid daily wage of Rs 213 instead of Rs 224 as decided by the State Government for the contractual workers.

They also demanded a copy of an agreement between the labour contractor and municipal authority so that they can know about the facilities of the job and the benefits they are entitled to.

As per the rule of the Government, all the contractual sanitary workers should be paid their wages through bank, but till now, the sanitation workers are not getting their wages through bank in Talcher, they told.

They also warned of launching an agitation if their problems are not sorted out within 15 days.
