Tech giants to talk tactics to prevent midterm-election manipulation: report

Representatives of some of the biggest U.S. tech companies, including Facebook Inc. FB, -0.43% Twitter Inc. TWTR, +0.21% Alphabet's GOOGL, -0.05% Google and Microsoft Corp. MSFT, +0.47% will meet Friday in San Francisco to discuss tactics to prepare for the midterm elections, according to a Buzzfeed News report late Thursday. Citing an email it obtained, Buzzfeed said the meeting will discuss cybersecurity and ways to deny online misinformation campaigns ahead of the elections. The companies will lay out what measures they're taking, discuss the biggest problems and decide whether such summits should become a regular occurrance, Buzzfeed said. Facebook's former security chief said Wednesday that the midterms are already a lost cause, cybersecurity-wise, and the focus must be on the 2020 elections.
