AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat high court on Friday asked the Centre again to file a reply to petitions filed by farmers from south Gujarat, who are opposing the land acquisition process for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project.

When the hearing took place before a bench headed by the chief justice, the petitioners’ advocate pointed out that the state government and Indian Railways have tendered affidavits, but the central government has not. This led the judges to direct the Union government to submit its reply.

Before the arguments commenced, the petitioners approached the Supreme Court, which directed the high court to speed up proceedings in this case.
