UK announces plans for ‘no-deal’ Brexit

Representational ImageThe British government has released its first contingency plans for leaving the European Union without an agreement.

The government yesterday issued the first batch of technical notices covering 25 sectors, including financial services, medicines, nuclear materials and exports of goods.

The government plans to release more papers covering several dozen other sectors by the end of September.

In a speech in London, Brexit minister Dominic Raab spoke about the need for new customs procedures if a no-deal Brexit happens.

He said businesses will be given advice on how they will need to make import and customs declarations.The government plans to increase the number of border officers to avoid delays.

Raab referred to possible shortages of drugs imported from EU countries. He suggested that the government will work with industry to stockpile medicines for 6 weeks above normal operations. Britain is to leave the EU in just over 7 months.
