As per the National Weather Service (NWS) the hurricane today downgraded from a Category 4 to a Category 3 storm. However, emergency preparation were underway as full force of the hurricane might happen over the next 24 hours. The schools and businesses are closed.
Other life-threatening conditions are expected with damaging winds, dangerous surf with the possibility of water levels reaching tow to four feet above normal.
The situation is being monitored in areas surrounding Hurricane Lane by Air New Zealand as if might affect services in and out of Honolulu.
Air New Zealand says it is continuing to monitor the situation surrounding Hurricane Lane, which may affect services in and out of Honolulu.
Air New Zealand spokesperson mentioned in a statement that the customers were requested to consider travelling earlier or deferring travel for a later date although the currently services were planned to operate as scheduled.
According to NWS damaging tropical storm-force winds were expected in parts of the Big Island today. Dangerous hurricane force winds were expected in certain area by tonight.
Lane will cause Tornadoes and large waterspouts along and to the right of the track of the hurricane.
