Aimed at rebuilding the lives of thousands affected by the raging floods last week, V.D. Satheesan, MLA of North Paravur, has proposed a corporate adoption scheme to carry out restoration work in the Assembly constituency.
The programme, envisaged as an add-on to assistance from the Central and State governments, proposes obtaining sponsorship from corporates for reconstruction work across the sectors.
Plan to be readied
A detailed plan for the project will be drawn up based on the extent of damage ascertained by the Revenue Department, and based on that, consultations will be held with prospective sponsors.
Services
“It entails both long-term and short-term measures such as holding of health camps across the region to assess the impact of the floods on public health, provision of treatment to victims, distribution of study materials, other than textbooks, to students, and construction of houses,” explained Mr. Satheesan.
The sponsors will be required to extend their expertise and financial support to the programmes they have adopted.
According to Mr. Satheesan, several prominent personalities and corporate houses have already come forward evincing interest in rebuilding the lives of the flood-hit in the region.
