Fake VP of TV channels, newspapers, a B-tech dropout, arrested for cheating

Impersonating herself as Vice President of several well-known English News Channels, Newspapers and firms, one Payal Samuel (32), a B-Tech college dropout was caught defrauding several business men of huge amounts of cash and kind. The team from STARS-1, Crime Branch of Delhi Police arrested the accused on August 15 from Mumbai.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajiv Ranjan stated that a businessman running a travel agency in Delhi's Central Market, Lajpat Nagar which provided online air tickets and hotel bookings filed a complaint stating the accused Payal Samuel had allegedly defrauded him of approximately Rs 30 Lakh within one and half month by purchasing air tickets (domestic as well as international), foreign exchange and hotel bookings.

"The accused allegedly approached the complainant on June 9 this year. He gave the reference of an acquaintance and impersonated a Vice President of an English News Channel. She purchased air tickets, foreign exchange and hotel bookings for her customers on credit which rose alarmingly. On demanding his money the accused allegedly made frivolous excuses," Ranjan stated in the official release.

Suspecting the conduct of Payal, the complainant and his suppliers looked her up on the internet and was shocked to learn that she conned them.
