Hawaii Residents Feeling Impact of Hurricane Lane

Hawaii residents are feeling the impact of Hurricane Lane — and waiting to see how much worse it will get.

The storm, which weakened to a Category 3 on Thursday, dumped  about 20 inches  of rain within 24 hours on Hawaii's Big Island.

The state's  governor tweeted  all of that water has led to "catastrophic flooding." The Weather Channel reports  Lane "will make its closest approach" to the islands overnight Friday into Saturday.

Maui and Oahu are in that path.

It's currently a waiting game to see if the hurricane will make a direct hit.

If it does, Lane would be  only the third hurricane  to ever make landfall on the Aloha State — and the first in more than 25 years.

But even if the hurricane's eye doesn't pass over the state,  forecasters warn  its 120 mile-per-hour winds can still cause serious damage.
