Hurricane Lane is now a category 3 storm as it heads toward Hawaii

Hurricane Lane has weakened to a category 3 storm from category 4 as it continues to churn toward Hawaii, with maximum sustained winds of close to 120 miles an hour, according to the National Hurricane Center. "Some weakening is forecast from later today and tonight through late Saturday, but Lane is expected to remain a dangerous hurricane as it approaches the islands," the forecaster said in its latest public advisory. Hawaii is bracing for a storm that is expected to dump up to 30 inches of rain over its islands. A hurricane warning is in effect for Maui County, including the islands of Maui, Lanai, Molokai and Kahoolawe. The hurricane is about 160 miles southwest of Kailua-Kona and about 200 miles south of Honolulu.
