Six inmates at Sousa Baranowski Correctional Center have been indicted on assault charges stemming from a melee at the prison earlier in the week, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. said.

Six officers were injured in the fight, which broke out at about 11:40 a.m. Monday in the K2 Housing Unit. None of the officers were seriously injured, but five were taken to the emergency room at a local hospital.

The six inmates allegedly started the fight with three correction officers, Early said.

Kevin Semiglia, 28, of Chelsea, was indicted on five counts of assault and battery on a correction officer.

Buthchhay Chourb, 29, of Lynn, was indicted on three counts of assault and battery on a correction officer and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He faces enhanced penalties on all five counts as a habitual criminal.

Jacquan McKenzie, 23, of Lynn, was indicted on three counts of assault and battery on a correction officer. He faces enhanced penalties on all three counts as a habitual criminal.

Tiberias Albert, 25, of Fall River, was indicted on two counts of assault and battery on a correction officer.

Javante A. Antone, 22, of New Bedford, was indicted on two counts of assault and battery on a correction officer.

Jamaul W. Vital, 23, of Medford, was indicted on one count of assault and battery on a correction officer.

According to Herald News archives, Albert was  convicted in March 2017 of shooting an unsuspecting victim on Quequechan Street three years before and sentenced to serve 17 to 20 years in state prison.

According to testimony, Albert shot a 47-year-old man twice in the abdomen after the victim told him to get off his front porch. The victim, who survived, did not know Albert, nor did anything to provoke him, prosecutors said.
