BELAGAVI: The central government has fixed
minimum support price (
MSP) for grains grown in other parts of the country. But with no response from the state government to start a procurement centre, farmers have incurred huge losses, alleged MP
Suresh Angadi.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said, “farmers are getting good yields this year because of the good monsoon. Prices of grains have been slashed in the local markets. Green gram is being sold at Rs 4,200 while the MSP is Rs 6,970, soyabean is being sold at Rs 2,000 when the Centre has fixed Rs 3,999 as MSP. Farmers from
North Karnataka districts including Belagavi are suffering huge losses, he said.
The state government should immediately start procurement of these commodities from the farmers at MSP under the central pool in Belagavi, he urged.
If they don't do, they should be ready to face the anger of farmers. It should clear its stand so that the central government can intervene and start the direct procurement, the MP warned. He alleged that due to the negligence of the coalition state government, Rs 2,100 Central Road Fund (CRF) of central government has lapsed.
