Says Gurugram Wildlife Department

The Gurugram Wildlife Department said it has rescued an “unprecedented” 450 venomous snakes of different categories in last two months. Some of the rescue operations were conducted at high-rise apartments, officials said.

Monsoon relief

The high number of snakes being rescued from residential areas may be linked to very hot summers this year, they said, adding that the start of monsoon has brought some relief to the residents and the number has come down.

“The temperature was very high during the summer this year, making it the ideal breeding situation for reptiles. We rescued majority of the snakes from localities adjoining the Aravalli mountains,” said a Gurugram Wildlife Department officer and rescuer.

“We rescued 450 snakes in July and August from residential complexes, including high-rise apartments,” he said.
