Poll ticket allotment process in Congress reaches decisive stage

The process of allotment of tickets to Assembly poll contenders in the State unit of the Congress party has now reached at a decisive stage as coordinators of all the district units have forwarded the names to Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC).

Two important meetings of CGPCC i.e. of Elections Committee and Screening Committee is going to held on Friday and Saturday respectively where detailed discussions on names in the panels would be held and thereafter the list would be handed over to AICC for formal approval .

Party sources informed that the Screening Committee Chairman for the State, Rajya Sabha member from Assam, Bhubaneswar Kalita and two other members Ashwin Kotwar and Rohit Chaudhary are arriving in the State capital on Saturday and after meeting with senior Congress leaders of the State would conduct a State-wide survey before handing over their report of AICC committee for final approval.

Notably, this time a total of around 1900 applications were received by the party for the 90 Assembly seats.

In three of the assembly constituencies single application has been received namely in Patan-Bhupesh Baghel, Ambikapur-TS Singhdeo and Saja-Ravindra Chaubey. Whereas, two senior leaders --former Union Minister Charandas Mahant and Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha Tamradhwaj Sahu have also expressed their willingness to contest the polls if directive is given by the party high command.

However, sources in Congress party informed that the District Congress Committee (DCC) Coordinators have sent their report to the CGPCC and after discussions in Election and Screening committees, the Screening Committee acting on the recommendations of Election Committee will finalise the names after conducting a survey of all the 90 Assembly constituencies. As per instructions of AICC Chief Rahul Gandhi all this process is to be completed by the month end.
