National executive meet of BJP on Sept 8-9 likely

The BJP national executive is  expected to meet here on September 8 and 9 in the run-up to the crucial Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh  by the year-end.

The meeting of the BJP’s highest decision making body  was scheduled to be held on August 18 and 19 but was called off as former Prime Minister Atal Bihari passed away on August 16.

The meeting assumes significance due to the upcoming polls in the three BJP-ruled States as their results may set the pace for the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April-May 2019.

The meeting will be attended by all top leaders of the party including Prime Minister Narendra Modi , BJP President Amit Shah, Union Ministers , MPs and BJP-ruled Chief Ministers and all State Presidents.

The meeting may take key decisions on the poll preparations for the coming Assembly polls and the Lok Sabha elections which would follow them.  Battleground Uttar Pradesh (which returns 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha) would also come up for discussion in the meeting in the wake of the SP and BSP joining hands to forge a formidable combine to take on  the BJP in the State.
