Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel at Tiruchi Junction retrieved a handbag containing gold items valued at ₹2 lakhs which was left behind by a woman passenger who was travelling in the Coimbatore - Mayiladuthurai Jan Shatabdhi Express on Thursday.
The RPF personnel here received an alert from their counterpart at Karur at around 11 a.m that a woman passenger travelling in the express train upon alighting at Karur had found that she had left behind her handbag in the D-1 coach.
On receipt of information, an RPF team from Tiruchi led by Inspector Sujit Kumar Roy attended the express train upon its arrival at Tiruchi Junction. The team which checked the coach found the handbag lying abandoned on seat no. 68.
The bag was thereafter brought to the RPF Tiruchi Post and upon opening it the RPF personnel found a gold wrist band, necklace, four gold rings, five ear rings, one pair of nose pin, a locket, a mobile phone, Aadhar card and some medical documents inside.
The matter was immediately conveyed to Karur RPF personnel. Acting on information, the woman M. Papathi (50) of Namakkal district came to RPF Tiruchi Post later and found all the items intact.
The handbag was handed over to the woman after proper acknowledgement and duly verifying the details provided by her, said RPF sources.
