U.S. Durable-Goods Orders Fell 1.7% in July

Drop in transportation equipment orders drives sharper-than-expected decline

WASHINGTON—Demand for long-lasting goods produced by U.S. factories fell in July because of a decline in aircraft sales, but underlying demand grew modestly.

Orders for durable goods, reflecting manufactured products intended to last at least three years, declined a seasonally adjusted 1.7% in July from the prior month, the Commerce Department said Friday.
