Mystery shrouds death of witness to Unnao murder

Mystery shrouds the death of a key witness in the sensational rape of a girl and the murder of her father in Unnao, allegedly by BJP legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar, his brother and aides.

The witness was laid to rest without informing the sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigating the cases or even the Unnao police.

Even after the rape victim's family brought the matter to the knowledge of the Unnao police, the cops are yet to take cognisance.

The accused MLA was charge-sheeted for rape and is in jail for the last four months, yet he has not been sacked by the BJP brass even after the victim's family submitted several memorandums in this regard to senior party leaders.

Sources said that Yunus, a key witness to the brutal murder of the rape victim's father, died under mysterious circumstances last Saturday and his family members buried him without informing anyone.

When the rape victim's family learnt of it on Wednesday, they informed the Superintendent of Police of Unnao as well as the CBI officials, requesting them to look into the matter.

They suspect a conspiracy by the MLA and his brother to eliminate the witness so that they may be easily bailed out in the case as other witnesses would then also turn hostile fearing threat to their lives.

But the Unnao police are yet to take cognisance.

The CBI charge-sheeted Kuldeep Sengar's brother Atul Sengar and his four close aides — Vinay Mishra aka Vineet, Virendra Singh aka Babua and Shashi Pratap Singh aka Suman Singh and Sonu — in connection with the murder of Unnao rape victim’s father.

However, CBI investigating officer Anil Kumar did not mention the name of another accused, Shailu in the charge-sheet.

In the FIR lodged with the Makhi police of Unnao, the rape victim's mother accused Atul Singh Sengar of dragging her husband from their his house to the MLA's house and brutally beating him with sticks and rods after tying him to a tree. The victim, who was later framed in a fake case, died in Unnao jail.

Yunus was a key witnesses to the crime.
