3 Kaanwarias of Bihar die in road mishap on NH 6

In a major road mishap three Kaanwarias from Bihar were killed and 25 others were injured as the bus they were travelling in overturned on NH-6 at  Shirish Chowk under Bahragora police station area in Ghatshila sub-division,  in the wee hours of Thursday.

Those killed were identified as Amrawati Devi (35), Mandip Ray alias Bittu (6), and Chandrawati Devi (48) all residents of Motihari district in Bihar.

Soon after the mishap, the injured were rushed to MGM Medical College Hospital, where condition of two of them was said to be serious.  The seriously injured, Rajesh Kumar (38) and Loa Patel (32), were later shifted to Tata Main Hospital.

The mishap took place after the axle of the bus collapse on the NH-6 which connects to Odisha through Jamshola.

One of the victims, Chandrawati Devi had died on the spot where as two others succumbed to their injuries during treatment at the medical college hospital.

Hospital sources said all those killed had head injuries and the two seriously injured have also sustained grievous head injury.

OC, Baharagora police station Sanjay Kumar Singh confirmed about the fatal mishap in the area at wee hours. “We are investigating the mishap. There were about 50 passengers, including women in a bus that was coming from Puri.  At about 1 am, the bus’ axle broke down after passing a crater in the middle of the road at Shirish Chowk where it overturned,” said officer-in-charge Singh.

He said all the mishap victims were residents of Raxaul in Motihari district and were returning back to their home from Puri. 

The OC said the injured were first taken to a government-run hospital in Bahragora and were later shifted to MGM Medical College Hospital in the morning. “The injured were taken to Baharagora by our police jeep and ambulance,” said the OC.

“We are all in state of shock of don’t know how such a major mishap took place. We all are from Raxaul and had been to Baidhnath Dham in Deoghar and at Puri,” noted one of the injured.
