Release white paper on double bedroom housing, demands TDP leader

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has no moral right to continue as Chief Minister unless he released a white paper on the much promised double bedroom housing, said TDP senior leader Revuri Prakash Reddy.

Addressing the media persons here on Friday, he said the ruling TRS party in its manifesto promised to 2.37 lakh double bedroom houses but after four years, it could only manage to build a mere 5,183 houses. The State government borrowed ₹1,200 crore from HUDCO and the Centre gave ₹1,594 crore for 1,86,786 houses in two phases under Pradhan Manthri Awaas Yojana. But the money was diverted by the State government for other purposes.

Out of 31 districts, the TRS government has not even started the housing scheme in 15 districts. In the constituency represented by Housing Minister A. Indrakaran Reddy, the scheme remained a non-starter.

The TDP leader demanded that the Chief Minister, who proposes to hold a public meeting on September 2 to talk about the achievements of his government, should come out with a white paper on the housing scheme. He should tell the public why he had failed to keep up his promises.

“The TDP will question the TRS government on each of its promise every day from now on,” Mr. Prakash Reddy said. The Chief Minister visited Warangal district in January 2015 and visited six slums. He promised to build ground plus one for the poor. Till date, the promise remains on paper. In a democracy today, the word of a Chief Minister seems to have no value, more so under the TRS regime, Mr Prakash Reddy said.
