Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) fire and emergency services department has failed to trace the eight-year-old Adnan Shakil Kureshi, who reportedly
drowned in
Pili river four days ago. The department has increased number of fire personnel and students on the task to 25.
Chief fire officer Rajendra Uchake told TOI three boats have been engaged with the team for the search in Pili river. “We got a complaint about the
boy drowning in Pili river on Tuesday. I intensified the operation. Search is going on up to Mauda, eight kilometres from the city,” he said.
Fire personnel are also walking in the highly-contaminated water in the river and checking in the weeds and filth at bridges and banks.
The boy was a resident of Hamid Nagar in North Nagpur.
Activist Sheikh Shahnawaz said the family of the boy was in grief for not getting any information about their family member for last four days. “The boy was playing with other kids at his residence on the river bank. Due to rains, river was in spate on Tuesday. A ball fell into the river so Adnan went to pick it up and drowned,” he said.
