Nagpur: Chasing a lead in a molestation case helped cops expose a con man, who used to target divorced women and exploit them financially and physically. The accused, identified as Akash Agrawal, 40, used different names and professions to lure many women into a second marriage. Agrawal was arrested by Beltarodi police on Thursday soon after a Wardha-based woman registered a case of molestation and cheating by personation against him.
Beltarodi police, under the guidance of Zonal DCP Nilesh Bharne and senior PI Vijay Talware, investigated the matter and found he had exploited other women too. Ironically, a similar complaint had been filed at Mankapur police station last year, but no FIR has been registered there.
According to cops, Agrawal used to target women who were looking for a second marriage. He had made several fake IDs on a matrimonial website ‘secondshadi.com’. The accused recently came in contact with the survivor from Wardha through the website. He kept in touch with her through calls, and claimed to be a divorced and rich businessman looking for something permanent. The accused had several times called the survivor to meet and see his home and business. He had told the survivor that his name was Ajay Kumbhare.
On Thursday, the survivor finally agreed to meet Agrawal, and he came to pick her up in his four-wheeler. The accused told the survivor that they will go on a long drive and then discuss other things. The accused took the survivor on a drive to a location in the jurisdiction of Beltarodi police station, where he stopped the car on the roadside and molested the survivor. The survivor raised an alarm and public gathered at the spot. Incidentally, another woman in the crowd identified Agrawal and told the survivor he is her husband and his name is Akash Agrawal.
The drama at the spot continued till both woman reached Beltarodi police station and registered a case against Agrawal. During investigations, cops found out about four other victims of the accused, some of whom he had married, and with some he was in a live-in relationship.
The survivor from Wardha was the latest victim of the accused. The accused also confessed before the cops that he had duped two of them of Rs40 lakh by asking for money and property from them.
“We are investigating the matter further, there might be many other victims of the accused. Till now we have procured PCR till August 27,” said Talware.
