Indian stock market edged higher on Thursday to record close, driven by index heavyweight Reliance Industries, which became the country’s first company to cross Rs 8 lakh crore in market capitalisation, Reuters reported.
However, losses in financials and oil marketing companies capped the gains.
The benchmark BSE Sensex closed 0.13 per cent higher at 38,336.76, while the broader NSE Nifty ended up 0.1 per cent at 11,582.75.
Shares of RIL ended 1.8 per cent higher, while Larsen & Toubro gained over 2 per cent.
“We expect further consolidation in Nifty. However, there'll be no shortage of opportunities on stock-specific front. Traders should limit leveraged positions and focus on stock selection,” said Jayant Manglik, President, Religare Broking.
