Nagpur: The supplementary board exam results for HSC were declared on Friday with Nagpur division ranked fourth in the state in terms of passing percentage. Nagpur division, which comprises six districts including Wardha, Chandrapur, Gondia, Gadchiroli and Bhandara, collectively notched 25.51% as the passing percentage. The highest was Latur (31.48%) while lowest was Mumbai (19.27%).
V Deshpande, in charge of the divisional board (Nagpur), said, “Overall the performance of Nagpur division has been satisfactory. The students who did not clear the exam this time will get another chance in summer 2019.”

The state government till a few years ago conducted the supplementary exams in October, but it was shifted to July by education minister Vinod Tawde so that students can save an academic year. Std X results for the supplementary exam are also expected soon. Deshpande, said, “There is no specific date out yet but I think it will be announced next week.”

Passing percentage of Nagpur division has slipped in the last three years. In 2016 Nagpur division’s passing percentage was 34.52%, in 2017 it slipped marginally to 34.14% while this year it witnessed a major slide by plummeting to 25.51%. Deshpande, said, “I cannot zero in on any particular reason why this would have happened. Considering the scale of the exam, there is no way to scientifically pin point any particular reason for the slide.”
