NEW DELHI: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday trained guns at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) by comparing it to Egypt's Sunni Islamist organization, the Muslim Brotherhood, during his address at the International Institute of Social Science (IISS) in London. Not pleased with Rahul’s analogy, BJP hit back by saying that the Congress president has “no maturity and understanding of India”.

"RSS is trying to change the nature of India. Other parties haven't tried to capture India's institutions. RSS's idea is similar to the idea of the Muslim Brotherhood in the Arab world," Rahul said during an address at IISS.

For the uninitiated, the Muslim Brotherhood, also referred to as MB, is an Egypt-based Islamist Organization, which believes in implementing Islamic law and is banned by the governments of several countries, such as Bahrain, Egypt, Russia, Syria, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Today, giving his first major foreign policy address, the Congress president said that BJP, at the behest of the right-wing organization, has been in the process of toning down the institutes of the country.

"When one bypasses the entire institutional structure and decides to demonetise the nation that is not maximising India's power. The idea of demonetisation came directly from RSS, bypassed the Finance Minister and RBI, and was planted in Prime Minister's head," he said.

Within hours, the BJP was ready with its rebuttal.

"You have said that the ideology of the government is that of the Muslim Brotherhood? You're a parliamentarian and the president of a Congress party," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said while addressing a press conference.

Patra further claimed that the Congress president is only motivated by "hatred" for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling party.

"Rahul ji you have no maturity and understanding of India. You have no facets. The only quality you possess is hatred against PM Modi and BJP," he added.

The BJP leader demanded that the Congress president, who is currently in London as part of his party’s outreach programme, should tender an "immediate" apology for comparing MB with the RSS, which has been an ideological base for the Bharatiya Janta Party and has mentored several of its political leaders.
