A seminar on Upanisad was organised by the Academy of Yoga & Oriental Studies (AYOS) here last week. The quintessence of self-knowledge or the knowledge of soul as depicted in the primary Upanisad was discussed by Dr Haripada Satapathy in his keynote address.

The intra and inter-relationship of the Upanisads and the development of soul consciousness were discussed at length with a special reference to ‘Om’, the philosophies of  creation from Brahma and Brahman.

Noted Vedic scholar Arun Kumar Upadhyay, chief guest, spoke on Gayantri Mantra, its composition and on its preeminence in the Vedic culture with reference to Rig Veda and Yajur Veda and on the formulae leading towards understanding of Vedas.

In his presidential address, senior scribe Sugyan Choudhury dwelt upon the relevance of Vedic knowledge to bring about a spiritual renaissance in today’s materialistic world.

Earlier, one-minute silence was observed for the departed soul of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The audience felt the absence of AYOS director Dr Indulata Das and prayed for her quick recovery as she has undergone a critical surgery.
