NEW DELHI: Addressing the audience at the International Institute of Social Science (IISS) in London on Friday, Congress president
Rahul Gandhi equated
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with the
Muslim Brotherhood and held RSS responsible for dilution of institutional autonomy in India.
Rahul Gandhi said that RSS is trying to change India's nature unlike any other political party in the country. "RSS is trying to change the nature of India. Other parties haven't tried to capture India's institutions. RSS's idea is similar to the idea of Muslim Brotherhood in the Arab world," said Gandhi.
Muslim Brotherhood is a transnational Sunni fundamentalist organisation which was founded in Egypt by Islamic scholar and schoolteacher Hassan al-Banna in 1928 and has influenced the formation of other Islamist groups such as Hamas in Syria.
Gandhi further alleged that RSS has tried to over rule key structures of India. "The idea of demonetisation came directly from RSS, bypassed the Finance Minister & RBI, and was planted in Prime Minister's head," said Gandhi.
Gandhi is on a four day visit to the United Kingdom and European Union, and was addressing an event organised by the
Indian Overseas Congress, a frontal organisation of Congress party, to strengthen its outreach among the Indian diaspora abroad.
Gandhi on Friday gave his first major foreign policy address at IISS, London, since he took over the reins of the Congress as president. He also touched upon several other issues such as the Doklam crisis, the necessity of decentralization of power etc.
