The markets opened marginally higher on the last week of the trading day. BSE Sensex opened at 38,366.79, up by 30.03 points. NSE Nifty started at 11,599.60, higher by 16.15 points. Rupee traded below the 70-mark against dollar on Friday morning session.
All sectoral indices were trading in green except FMCG, media and pharma in the early trading session. The top gainers on Nifty50 index were Power Grid, Axis Bank, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance, Reliance and Tech Mahindra. Sun Pharma, ITC, Bharat Petroleum were trading in red.
NSE Nifty has been touching record highs successively for past couple of months despite trade war threats hovering over most world economies, emerging and developed. According to Reuters, NSE Nifty is up by 10 per cent so far in 2018.
BSE index is Asia's top performer for the year, even in dollar terms after accounting for the rupee's nearly 9 percent decline, Reuters reported.
