A golden crown weighing about one kg was donated by devotees to the presiding deity of Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari temple at Guttala Bazar here on Friday.
The temple priests adorned the presiding deity with the crown worth about ₹30 lakh on the auspicious second Friday of the ongoing Sravana Masam, temple sources said.
The nearly five-decade-old temple witnessed a flurry of activity with scores of women devotees clad in traditional attire performing samuhika kunkumarchana and varalakshmi vrathams on the temple premises.
Devotional programmes
The temple committee chairman, Mellacheruvu Venkateshwara Rao, supervised the special rituals. A host of devotional programmes were held late in the evening invoking the blessings of goddess Lakshmi for wealth and prosperity.
Special prayers and rituals were also held at the famous Sthambadri Sri Lakshminarasimha Swamy shrine and various other temples in the town on second Sravana Shukravaram, considered auspicious ahead of Sravana Pournami to be celebrated on August 26.
NIZAMABAD Special Correspondent adds: Varalaxmi Vratham was celebrated with great fervour by women across the erstwhile Nizamabad district on Friday. They made a beeline to temples to offer prayers since early morning.
