Rowers enter finals

Indian rowers continued their good show in the 18th Asian Games as they qualified for the final round in three more events here on Wednesday.

Rohit Kumar and Bhagwan Singh finished on top in men's lightweight double sculls repechage round with a time of 7:14.23s to qualify for the final race to be held on Aug 24.

In the women's four repechage round, the Indian quartet of Sanjita Dung Dung, Annu, Navneet Kaur and Yamini Singh finished fourth with a time of 7:53.29s but still made it to the final to be held on August 24.

The men's lightweight eight team was the last to compete today and it also qualified for the final race by coming on top with a time of 6:15.62. The final will be held on August 24.

On Tuesday, Dattu Baban Bhokanal qualified for the men's single sculls final round while the men's lightweight four team also made it to the title race. Sanjukta Dung Dung had also qualified for the final round in the women's pair event.

Swimmers fail to qualify

Indian swimmers Sandeep Sejwal, Sajan Prakash and Avinash Mani topped their respective heats but still failed to qualify for the finals of the Asian Games here on Wednesday.

Sejwal finished first in his heat with a timing of 62.07 but could not make the final of the men's 100m breaststroke despite his impressive outing at the GBK Aquatic Center.

Before that, Sajan Prakash won his heat with a timing of 54.04 in men's 100m butterfly, while Avinash Mani beat Saudi Arabia's Bu Arish in their two-man unseeded heat. Mani had a timing of 56.98.

Both the Indian swimmers failed to qualify for the finals.

Earlier, Sajan had surged ahead of the pack to top Heat 2, while Mani topped Heat 1.

In the men's 4 x 100m freestyle relay, the Indian team of Sajan Prakash, Virdhawal Khade, Anshul Kothari, Aaron Dsouza finished top of Heat 1 by clocking 3:25.17, but chances of making the final with this score were grim as this was an unseeded heat.

There were two more heats to go before the announcement of the final list.

Maan loses in r16

Navjeet Maan crashed out in the pre-quarterfinals of the 80 kg teakwondo match, ending the Indian men's campaign at the Asian Games.

The 24-year-old Maan lost 6-20 to Linglong Chen of China.

Maan trailed behind Chen 0-6 in the first round before the Indian managed to opened his account in the second round.

However, the Chinese made a strong comeback scoring eight points to take a 15-5 overall lead in the match.

Chen then sealed the match, blanking Maan 5-1 in the third round.

Earlier, Maan had beaten Somsanouk Phommavanh of Lao in his opening match 32-18.
