New Delhi, Mr Arun Jaitley on Thursday resumed the charge of Ministry of Finance and Corporate Affairs after a gap of three months.
Soon after assuming the charge, Mr Jaitley held meeting with officials, including Finance Secretary Hasmukh Adhia, at the Ministry of Finance.
Earlier in the morning, President Ram Nath Kovind issued orders on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to a communique, ‘The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has directed to assign the portfolios of the Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs to Mr Arun Jaitley.’
Mr Jaitley had undergone a kidney transplant at the AIIMS in May after which his portfolio was given to Railway Minister Piyush Goyal temporarily. Mr Goyal was given the charge on May 14 till Mr Jaitley could resume his duty. However, Mr Jaitley continued in the Union Cabinet without any portfolio.
Mr Jaitley had attended Parliament to participate in the election for the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman. He was also active on social media during the break, posting blogs on issues, including Rafale deal and GST.
