VIJAYAWADA:
Araku MP
Kothapalli Geetha has decided to launch a new political party on Friday.
Elected on
YSR Congress ticket from Araku in 2014, Geetha had switched over to the ruling Telugu Desam Party in 2017. However, she remained unattached with the
TDP, though two other MPs, SPY Reddy and Butta Renuka, are actively associated with the TDP.
Ahead of announcing the new party, Geetha is likely to quit the YSR Congress and her Lok Sabha membership too, sources said. She also has plans to contest from general seats giving up her Araku reserved constituency, after announcing her new party.
“I am not happy with the present political system in
Andhra Pradesh. The parties are individual centric and have their own agenda. They have no concern for the people except to win their votes,” she said while speaking to TOI on Thursday.
Geetha said her party would give due representation for the deprived and vulnerable sections of the people. “I am in contact with several groups and individuals who have been looking for alternative and development-oriented politics,” she said.
She further said that her party would contest all the assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies in the state giving opportunities to those who are denied or deprived. She also claimed that her party would give due representation to women and will focus on their welfare.
She said that she is in constant touch with some people and groups who have made some mark in the state on social and gender issues. “Promoting women leadership is my concern and the party would have more women leaders,” she asserted.
