Delhi create record by defeating Rajasthan 30-0

BENAULIM: Trinity ground in Benaulim was inundated with goals as Delhi created a record in the Junior Girls national football championship defeating Rajasthan 30-0 on Thursday morning.

Who would believe it is possible to score thirty goals in a match. Delhi proved it is possible with captain Anushka Samuel scoring ten goals. Even goalkeeper Ketaki Tyagi scored.

Prerana Negi scored a hat trick and the other goal scorers were: Savi Mehtra(2), Anya Goyal(2) and  substitute Shalini Rai (2). Tithy Roy, Asha Thapa and substitute Deepika Venkatesh scored a goal each.

The sad part of Delhi’s record setting win was the inability of the team to qualify for the quarterfinal round of the tournament.

Goa is the other team – playing in South Goa– that will not be able to qualify for the next round immaterial of the result of their final match against Chandigarh tomorrow.

Manipur, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh are the three teams to have qualified for the quarterfinals after collecting six points. Mizoram is the other team that will make it to the quarterfinals, having already collected six points. Mizoram who have three points meet Rajasthan on their last match on August 25 and are tipped to sail through the quarters with ease. Jharkhan who hammered Goa 6-0 in their first match, trounced Chandigarh 5-0 in the second match at Trinity ground on Thursday.

Sharda Kumari scored four goals. The other goal was scored by Anu Radha Kumari.

Sharda found the mark in the 6th, 16th, 40th and 50th minute while Anu Radha Kumari bulged the nets in the 30th minute.

“The other teams in this tournament are much stronger than us. It is not just Jharkhand but the other teams playing here,” stated Goa coach Remmie Colaso.

“I could use the artificial ground in Fatorda for about half an hour for around twelve days to practice. The ground is being used by Goa football Development council (GFDC) and the India team,’ said Remmie.

“I had pointed this out to Schubert Furtado,” disclosed Remmie Colaso,

“Remmie could have discussed with the GFA South Goa Executive members if he faced any problems, but he never said a word about such issues as being pointed out now,” said some executive members who wished to remain anonymous. “Please do not quote us, we will discuss the issue in detail in our meeting” said some other executive member. Shubert Furtado refused to comment.

Some executive members disclosed that the team could not be put in a hotel as the girls are having their exams and classes.” There were other problems too and the responsibility is quite huge,’ said a member of the executive committee.

Coach Remmie disclosed that he had insisted that the team should stay together, but, the GFA did not adhere to his request.
