Bhopal: Rain recedes in state, CM reviews situation


Bhopal: Heavy rains that lashed the state during the past two-days showed signs of let-up on Wednesday. According to weather department, rains would continue for some more days. A circle of cyclonic wind influencing the weather has covered the state.

The circle, situated at a height of 4.5 km, stretches from Saurashtra and its adjoining areas covering Madhya Pradesh to South of Chattisgarh. Due to it, the rains would continue in some regions of the state. The rains in the state claimed the lives of more than 10 people in the past two days. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed the condition and directed the police and the administration to monitor the areas facing flood-like situations.

Chouhan has asked to identify the areas to be rehabilitated. He instructed to shift people in crisis to the areas of rehabilitation. The government has issued alert in the districts of Rajgarh, Agar and Ratlam and has directed the administration to remain watchful. Chouhan has directed director general of police (DGP) Rishi Shukla to instruct police to remain alert. He asked to issue instructions to immediately stop the traffic on the culverts, which were submerged.


Chouhan also directed to initiate probe into the incident of deaths that occurred due to falling of a wall in Dhobighat of state capital. He said investigations should be done to ascertain the reason and also to fix the accountability. It also came up in the meeting that encroachments were also leading to accidents during heavy rains. There are around 42 districts in the state which have recorded either normal or more than normal rains. As many as 9 districts have not registered normal rains so far.
