DCs asked to submit report before Aug. 29

The State Cabinet will meet on August 31 to assess the drought situation prevailing in several parts of the State and then take a decision on declaring the districts drought-hit, according to R.V. Deshpande, Minister for Revenue.

Speaking to presspersons at Bhanapur on Wednesday, Mr. Deshpande said that he had instructed the Deputy Commissioners to get a survey of the drought-hit areas done using drones and also by a joint team and submit a report before August 29. “I have instructed the Deputy Commissioners to ensure that there was no complaint of scarcity of drinking water and fodder,” he said. Stating that there was no dearth of funds, he said that the district administration had been asked to gear up to tackle the drought situation and also distribute compensation wherever there were reports of crop loss and death of cattle. Earlier, Mr. Deshpande visited a couple of fields in Koppal and Yelaburga taluks where standing groundnut and maize crops have been affected due to the failure of rain.
