Although Indian football men’s and women’s team are not participating in the Asian Games 2018, their profiles are still visible on the official website of the Asian Games 2018 website. Indian teams, both men and women, are not a part of Asian Games after they failed to meet the criteria set by the Olympic body.
Therefore, Indian Olympic Association decided not to send the men’s and women’s team to Asian Games 2018. The Indian men’s football team was hoping to use the Asian Games as a build up for the AFC Asian Cup 2019. Although Indian football teams are not part of the Asian Games which is going on in Indonesia, the official website of the Asian Games 2018 shows the Indian men’s and women’s football squads registered with the organisers and features some popular names.
In the men’s team, profiles of players such as Sandesh Jhingan, Jerry Lalrinzuala, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Udanta Singh, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Anirudh Thapa are visible on the website. From the women’s team, profiles of Bala Devi, Sanju, Aditi Chauhan and Dailma Chhibber, all of whom feature regularly for the women’s national team, are visible on the website.
