Ludhiana: Woman kills husband with help of lover; both arrested

LUDHIANA: The Focal Point police, on Thursday, have solved the murder case of a 45-year-old migrant shopkeeper who was found dead on the terrace of his house in Durga Colony, Dhandari on August 16. The police have arrested his wife and their tenant for murdering the man with a hammer.

According to police the wife and tenant were in illicit relation from past four years when the man came to know about it, the duo hammered him to death. The arrested accused are wife Sangeeta, 34, and tenant Shyamji Paswan, 35- both migrant labourer.

Mukesh Kumar, 45, who owned a grocery store inside his house was found dead on the terrace of his house in the morning of August 16. The body had several sharp and blunt injuries on his head and face. Since day one the police were suspecting the involvement of tenant and family of deceased. Moreover, the Rakesh Kumar, brother of deceased also suspected Sangeeta and Shyamji Paswan behind this as they were in illicit relation.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP- IV) Rajveer Singh Boparai said that the accused have confessed that they have murdered Mukesh as he came to know about their relation. The accused planned the murder around two months ago when Mukesh saw Sangeeta and Shyamji in objectionable condition. He restrained Sangeeta for talking to Shyamji moreover he told Shyamji to vacant the rented room, on the first of their house, as soon as possible."

"To befool Mukesh, Sangeeta and Shyamji stopped talking to each other however secretly they planned to kill Mukesh. That time Sangeeta and Shymaji used to work together in the same cycle parts manufacturing company and there he got two heavy hammers made for the job. Further, Sangeeta left the job from there, due to the pressure of Mukesh, and started working in another factory" added Boparai.

The official told that from past two months the duo was planning to kill Mukesh however due to the family members, present at home, they did not get chance.

In the night of August 15, Sangeeta deliberately fought with Mukesh as after a fight Mukesh used to sleep alone on the rooftop.

ADCP added, "Mukesh came home around 9.15pm. They had dinner around 10.30 when Sangeeta started fighting with him over. She also threw away the Samosa (snack) brought by Mukesh. Thus the accused succeeded in the plan as Mukesh went upstairs to sleep. Accused Shyamji was ready with a hammer. Around 2 am, Sangeeta went upstairs where Shyamji was waiting for him. Sangeeta holds Mukesh's legs while Shyamji hammered him to death. It is also suspected that Mukesh was drunk and he could not even scream."

Inspector Amandeep Singh Brar said that after executing crime the accused throw the hammer into a vacant plot filled with water near the house and went for sleep.

Next morning minor daughter of deceased saw the body and raised alarm.

The inspector Brar said that the accused got two hammers, of nearly 2kg each, made in the factory for this purpose. One hammer was in possession of Sangeeta and another with Shyamji.

The accused were arrested by police on Thursday from Dhandari railway station while they were planning to flee from the city leaving their children back home.
