MUMBAI: The BKC police on Tuesday arrested a commerce graduate for allegedly duping a 32-year-old bank employee of Rs 3.5 lakh after approaching her with a marriage proposal last year.
For almost a year, the accused, identified as Krishna Devkate (31) from Kalyan, kept taking money from the victim on the pretext that he wanted to clear loans taken for a house that they would move into post marriage. The case was registered in July after the victim realized she had been duped. Devkate is in police custody till August 24.
Devkate was earlier arrested for a similar offence. He has targeted at least 25 women in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and even Pune in the last few years and siphoned off lakhs of rupees, said a police officer.
