Search on in Kodagu for missing people: Rescuers find three bodies

After a respite from rains a  rescue team that was in search of missing persons in the floods and landslides ravaged Kodagu district have on Wednesday recovered three bodies, including two from Yemetalu and one at Hebbettagere in Madikeri taluk. While two bodies were identified as that of Mother Chandravathi and her son Umesh, the other body is yet to be identified.

Mother, a labour and her son an autodriver, were sleeping in their house at Mokaddalu on the fateful day when they were washed away along with their two storey house in  flash floods due to very heavy rain that lashed the District since August 13.  Their bodies caught under the debris of the house was recovered about two km away from the original place .  The recent spate of torrential rains had claimed 12 lives so far.

With respite from rains for the last two days authorities pressed into service 8 Drones under clear skies to search missing, stranded persons in the affected places.

Meanwhile, Scientists  visited the devastated places in an attempt to find real cause for such a devastation whether it was caused only due to flash flood water or was there any reason.  They are submitting the report based on which the Government will take up rehabilitation of the affected people by providing them weather proof shelter.

Following rumours fueling superstitions and hatred in the name of floods in Kodagu on various social media platforms,  top police officials have issued a stern warning to rumour mongers. The police have warned those misguiding people through social media posts and also the astrologers not to make unscientific statements.

Two AN 32 aircraft of the Indian Air Force airlifted 5 tonnes of relief materials from Yelahanka Airforce Station to Mysuru and from it was further airlifted by chopers to Harangi from where it will be taken to Madikeri Deputy Commissioner’s office.

People, who had fled due to floods in temple town Nanjangud, have started returning back to their homes from the relief centres as the water level in Kapila River is receding.

Mudikatte, Topina Beedhi, Halladakeri, Parashurama Temple were partially submerged in flood water due to heavy rains. As the water level in the river has reduced, there is a sigh of relief.
