Mumbai: Following an extensive donation drive for the Kerala calamity, students from Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) Maharashtra along with members of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and other local NGOs are back on the occasion of Eid collecting more than Rs 10 lakh from Eidgahs and Mosques after the Eid prayers.
Earlier the student-led National organisation, SIO carried out a nation-wide fundraising campaign, wherein they collected nearly 3.5 lakhs from Maharashtra alone. The local wings of the organisation are working day in and out at the affected sites alongside some other NGOs.
At present there is a huge need of food supplies, medical aid and shelter for the displaced. Based on the list of requirements, the organisation is carrying out this second round of nation-wide fundraising campaign. Earlier Khizer Shabibi, a student of Mechanical Engineering and Programme Coordinator of flood relief drive in Maharashtra has raised an appeal for all countrymen to come forward and help their fellow citizens with financial aid in their time of need.
Raafid Shahab the State general secretary of SIO added, “On Wednesday, Muslims in Maharashtra celebrated their Eid by sharing the pain of our brothers by sending massive donations to Kerala, funds were collected at more than 100 mosques and Eid-Gahs after Eid prayers. SIO also sent the fund raised through selling Skins of sacrificed animals during Eid for flood relief work in Kerala.”
