Accused prepared 150 Aadhaar cards and changed details of 400 other cards

Two persons have been arrested by the Faridabad Police Crime Branch for allegedly making Aadhaar cards illegally and also changing the names, address and other details on many, the police said on Wednesday. The two had allegedly prepared 150 Aadhaar cards and changed details of 400 other cards, the police said.

A team, led by Sector 56 Crime Branch Inspector Anand Kumar, arrested accused Vikas Gupta and Deepak Gupta from Mujesar. Both are residents of Bihar’s Gazipur village.

Deepak worked at a Aadhaar card regional office in Patna in 2017, when he allegedly damaged the laptop of his colleague containing Aadhaar-related data, the police said. He then offered his laptop in exchange for the damaged one and came to Delhi. Deepak then got the damaged laptop fixed and started using it to prepare Aadhaar cards illegally. He would charge ₹200-500 for the job, the police said.

The two had taken a room on rent at Rajender Chowk to run their business and would sit there from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The police have seized 43 Aadhaar cards and 22 receipts. “The details of the Aadhaar cards prepared by the accused will be scrutinised to find out identity of the beneficiaries,” said Mr. Kumar.

Deepak was arrested earlier this year on charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust as well as for making Aadhaar cards illegally. He had been released on bail.
