Brain-dead man’s organs give life to six

PUNE: The wife of a 37-year-old brain-dead man donated his vital organs on August 22 to give a new lease of life to six needy patients, including two in Pune.
The donor, a resident of village Naladurg (Osmanabad district), had met with an accident on August 19. He was declared brain-dead on August 21.

The man’s wife and relatives consented to donate his vital organs, including his liver, pancreas, kidneys and corneas, thereafter.As per the norms, the man's liver was allocated to a patient enrolled with state-run Sassoon hospital in Pune, while his pancreas was allocated to a patient enrolled with Sahyadri hospital in Pune.

Transplant surgeries of the harvested organs were on while going to the press.
