Thiruvananthapuram: In a heart-warming gesture, children of
Karimadom Colony have extended help to the flood–affected people by collecting money for relief through door-to-door campaign.
As many as 90 children in the age group of five to 15 years have joined hands to mobilize Rs 30,000 within a time span of 24 hours.
Karimadom Colony was one among the
flood affected areas in the capital. But, as the water receded fast, the kids here took the lead to collect funds for victims of other districts.
With the support of Blue Point – an organization that works for the welfare of children at Karimadom, they had collected the amount from the residents of the colony and nearby shopkeepers. They utilized an amount of Rs 12,000, which they kept aside for Onam celebration, and collected the remaining Rs 18,000 from others.
Many children broke their piggy banks and contributed money for relief. The collected amount was handed over to additional district magistrate V R Vinod the other day.
According to Blue Point CEO Baby Prabhakaran, it was the children themselves who came forward with the idea for collecting money for relief fund. tnn
