Make every house energy efficient, says Chief Secretary

Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar on Wednesday said there would not be any hike in power tariff and the focus would be on the supply of quality power of global standards.

Mr. Dinesh Kumar reviewed the energy efficiency programmes at the 7th Executive Committee meeting of State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM).

He said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was keen on providing quality power through a multi-pronged strategy to strengthen the sector and reducing the tariff.

Explaining the strategy proposed by Mr. Naidu, Mr. Dinesh Kumar said adoption of efficient technologies in generation, transmission, reducing transmission and distribution losses to 5% from 9.72% and emulating practices in Germany, the U.K. and China towards making every house energy efficient and reduce the burden of bills should be the priorities.

Creation of a mechanism to collect dues of ₹3,000 crore from various government departments and cost reduction mechanism to save about ₹2,000 crore were also discussed.

The official directed the Energy department to adopt an integrated approach for fast-track implementation of efficiency measures in all government departments and transform all the government buildings into star-rated buildings.

He also asked it to bring out a time-bound action plan in all the departments including Energy, Municipal Administration, Panchayat Raj, Medical & Health, Endowments, Industries, Social Welfare, School Education and Agriculture to save about 13,000 MU.

Principal Secretary (energy) Ajay Jain said the State had added 2,385 MW solar power capacity, including 1,000 MW at the Kurnool solar park.

AP-Genco MD and Transco CMD K. Vijayanand said the power generation company had saved around ₹500 crore through optimisation of quantity of coal for power generation so far.

AP-SPDCL CMD M.M. Nayak said around 25,000 energy efficient motors, at ₹45,000 each, against the target of 65,000 had been given to farmers for free.
